A large crowd gathered at St. James AME Church located on St. James Street Sunday afternoon April 27th to enjoy a worship service and celebrate the burning of the church mortgage. Present for the occasion and to provide the sermon was The Right Reverend Samuel L. Green, Sr., the Presiding Bishop of the Twelfth Episcopal District. Reverend James R. Hooper, Sr., Presiding Elder, was the Worship Leader. A large number of members of the clergy were on hand to take part in the service.
The Honorable Bryan Martin, Mayor of Warren, made expressions and voice his congratulations to the church for paying off there debt. He urged the members to keep working and expand their ministry in Warren. He told them St. James has a rich and strong history in Warren and is important to the community.
There were several choir selections and Scripture readings. The afternoon was completed by burning the note. St. James is Pastored by Reverend Barry Spencer. Brother Everett Wallace made closing remarks. Bro. Wallace was instrumental in arranging the program.
