
St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church will celebrate its 132 anniversary Saturday and Sunday. The celebration will begin with a prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church, 1501 N. Patterson Ave.
Nikki Walkers Lyons, the president of the Western North Carolina Conference of the AME Church will be the speaker. Lyons’ husband, Rev. Steven Lyons is the pastor of St. James. Ministry through Music will feature Rev. Shirley W. Hines, the AME Church iterant elder and a member of St. James. Admission for the breakfast is $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
The celebration will continue Sunday with services at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Rev. Barbara J. Barbour will be the speaker Sunday morning and Rev. Peris J. Lester will be the afternoon speaker. All of the church’s anniversary activities are open to the public.
