Hillary Rodham Clinton isn’t in the 2016 presidential race — at least not yet. But that’s not stopping a U.S. senator from throwing his early support behind her potential candidacy.

Tim Kaine of Virginia was in Columbia, South Carolina, on Saturday, speaking before a group of Democratic women.

Kaine said Clinton has shown grace in handling all sorts of problems and attacks in 30 years of public life. He said the former secretary of state, senator and first lady has what it takes to be president.

Kaine said he has no inside knowledge about whether she’ll run for the White House in 2016.

But Kaine said she will need a lot of early support if she does get into the race.
