Former Voice Behind Elmo, Kevin Clash’s Three Sex Abuse Lawsuits Dismissed

Former Voice Behind Elmo, Kevin Clash’s Three Sex Abuse Lawsuits Dismissed

Former Elmo voice actor Kevin Clash gained a legal victory in court as the United States Court of Appeals dismissed three sexual abuse lawsuits against him.

The dismissals, which occurred this month, involve alleged victims Cecil Singleton, Kevin Kiadii and a man identified only by the initials “S.M.” The men claim Clash sexually abused them more than 10 years ago when they were minor teenagers.

In reaching its decision, court documents note the Court of Appeals argued the alleged victims “failed to provide any reason why [they] were unable to discover their injuries prior to 2012.” As a result, the Court of Appeals found the arguments to be “without merit.”

The Court of Appeal’s decision marks the second time the lawsuits have been thrown out, reports. In July 2013, a New York judge threw out the lawsuits, claiming they were filed after the six-year statute of limitation had expired. The three men ended up taking their cases to the Court of Appeals, alleging they didn’t fully realize the psychological effects of the abuse until 2012. The latest ruling by the Court of Appeals affirms the previous judge’s decision regarding the lawsuits.

Although he avoided facing three lawsuits, Clash is far from out of the legal woods. The 53-year-old entertainer still has to deal with the case of Sheldon Stephens. The Pennsylvania man sued Clash in March 2013 amid claims the former “Sesame Street” star smoked crystal meth as he sexually abused him when he was 16. RadarOnline noted that the state has a more lenient policy toward statute of limitations.
