The shocking blast punched a hole in the roof of Bethany Community Church. The lightning shook the ground and sounded like ‘cannon went off,’ neighbors said.
That’s a shock.
A lightning bolt blitzed a Seattle church on Saturday, narrowly missing the faithful as it blasted a hole above the altar.
“I’ve never seen lightning like that in Seattle,” passerby Anson Allseit told KING 5. “It shook the ground.”
The thunderbolt punched through the roof of Bethany Community Church and knocked out power. It left a 2-by-4 crater above the altar, the station reported.
No one was injured.
A church member who lives in the neighborhood heard the thunderclap from a block away.
“It was the loudest I’ve ever heard,” Brad Hutcheson told KIRO 7. “It felt like a cannon went off just outside my door.”
