The Birmingham chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is honoring civil rights icon with a march through downtown Birmingham on Friday, April 4, at noon.
The march will take place on the anniversary of King’s death. King was shot and killed by James Earl Ray on April 4, 1968, while standing on a second floor balcony at the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis.
The event is intended to “celebrate the legacy, our victories and embrace the charge to unite as we continue to keep the dream” of King, according to a flier.
The march will begin outside Birmingham City Hall and end at Kelly Ingram Park, site of many of the important protests during the Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham.
