The spokesman of a pro-family group that has joined in support of a lawsuit filed against California’s ban on “gay” conversion therapy doesn’t think the homosexual agenda should be allowed to dominate anyone’s right to free speech.
Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX) and Freedom X, a legal group, have filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the U.S. Supreme Court against California’s ban on therapy for minors struggling with same-sex attractions. The groups join others challenging the law approved by the state’s Democrat-controlled legislature and signed by Governor Jerry Brown (D).
“The real issue here with the homosexual agenda to stop this therapy is dominance,” explains Greg Quinlan of PFOX. “It’s not about equality; it’s about dominance. It’s silencing anyone who has any other opinion than the homosexual opinion.”
He further argues that it is a free speech right for a professional to address the issues of a client.
But the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that conversations between counselors and patients about how patients can change their sexual orientation is considered “conduct” and not protected private speech. The federal appeals court ruled such counseling unlawful.
As an ex-homosexual, Quinlan shares that his freedom from the lifestyle came after he understood that science does not support the idea of a “gay-gene.”
