The second annual Athens Area Black History Bowl will bring eight teams head-to-head Saturday as they compete for trophies and cash prizes based on their knowledge of African American history.
The event was conceived by retired Athens-Clarke County educator and Heritage Committee member Valdon Daniel after seeing the movie “Lincoln” and realizing a notable activist against slavery wasn’t mentioned in the film.
The academic competition will be held at noon at the Elizabeth G. King Gymnasium, 440 Dearing Ext., Athens.
The event is free and open to the public.
