
Ousted Fox Sports Southwest broadcaster Craig James has gotten discrimination charges filed against the network for firing him just days after joining the company because of his views against gay marriage.
The Texas Workforce Commission issued a charge of discrimination against Fox Sports Southwest on behalf of James and Liberty Institute, a conservative Christian organization that took up the case following James’ termination last Sept. 2, a mere three days after he’d been announced as an analyst on the “Big 12 Live” program.
James had yet to sign a contract and made only one appearance on the show before Fox Sports cut ties with him, a move that was reportedly ordered by network executives who were upset that the hire hadn’t been vetted by upper management. The alleged root of the problem was James’ controversial comments on gays, such as claiming during a failed 2012 U.S. Senate run that they would “have to answer to the Lord for their actions.”
A Fox spokesperson implied that much to the Dallas Morning News by saying, ‘We just asked ourselves how Craig’s statements would play in our human resources department. He couldn’t say those things here.”
