The Voice’s Anthony Evans has joked that he would rather not hear that a mentor nearly pressed their button during his blind audition.
The singer from Dallas, Texas became a member of Christina Aguilera’s team on Monday night (February 20) following his blind audition performance of ‘What’s Going On’, although fellow coach Cee Lo Green told him afterwards that he had been on the verge of turning around as well.
Cee Lo said: “There is a tremble in your voice that is very sensitive and sincere, almost like you’re on the verge of crying because you really feel what you’re saying. I got emotionally involved.
“Everybody can vouch for me behind me that I was just about to hit it then Christina hit it and I was like, ‘Damn!'”
Aguilera said: “I thought you had a beautiful voice. It was really beautiful and Cee Lo, you were really thinking about it up to the last minute! I was waiting to hear something crazy and spectacular and at the end you hit some of those runs and executed them sharp.”
Fellow mentor Blake Shelton told Evans that he had “great texture” to his voice and admitted he’d been encouraging Aguilera to press her button which is probably why it took her as long as it did, joking that she didn’t want him to be right.
