First Lady Michelle Obama announced Monday new plans to help military families adjust after service members are hurt in combat or deployed on short notice.
The “Joining Forces Campaign” would allow family members up to 26 weeks of leave from work to care for a wounded warrior.
Up to 12 weeks would also be given to help a service member suddenly called to active duty, and up to 15 days would be given to see a service member on leave.
“We want to recognize the extraordinary dedication, sacrifice and service of our nation’s caregivers, not simply with words but with deeds,” Mrs. Obama said.
“This means that more caregivers can now provide support at a hospital for days or weeks at a time,” she added. “They can help their loved ones make that transition back home.”
