The U.S. House of Representatives will be greeted with bad news when
lawmakers return to Capitol Hill tomorrow: Two new polls find record
numbers of adults disapprove of the way Congress does its job.
In a new CNN/ORC International poll, 86% of adults give Congress a thumbs down. The findings were similar in an ABC News-Washington Post
survey, which showed 84% saying they disapprove of how lawmakers are
doing their job. In that poll, a whopping two-thirds say they “strongly”

intense criticism directed at Congress is at an all-time low in both
polls, since pollsters first started asking this question in 1974.
and Democrats can’t agree on much, but they both agree that Congress is
doing a lousy job,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland says on the
network’s Political Ticker blog.
Gary Langer, polling director for ABC News, notes the job-approval rating for Congress
is more than 35 percentage points below President Obama’s approval
rating — the biggest gap between a president and Congress since 1990.
