“Peace on Earth and Goodwill Towards Men” — What it Really Means

Peace On Earth

Luke 2:14 reads, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Peace on earth? It doesn’t look like it. The world is full of conflict. Since the angels’ announcement we have seen an endless string of wars. The peace announced by the angels and brought by Jesus was very different than the end of war itself because fighting and war has gone on since the time of Jesus.

Jesus brought peace between us and God. We are by nature opposed to God and cannot find the way back to God by ourselves. Without God we are doomed to a life of conflict and distress.
But God sent His Son Jesus to make a way of return – to bring peace. Jesus is called the Prince of Peace because He brings peace to all who come to Him. Isaiah 9:6 says, His name shall be called…the Prince of Peace.
God’s justice requires that satisfaction be made for the sins of rebellious people. This Jesus did by His death on the cross. Colossians 1:20-21 states, “And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled…”
When a person believes and accepts this sacrifice, God forgives his sins and makes peace with him. Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…”
When a person finds peace with God, war, illness and other distress will become merely a surface disturbance on a deep, calm sea. Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee.”
Jesus said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Real peace is found only in Jesus. If you would like this peace, come to Jesus with sorrow for your sin and He will give you peace. If you will believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you, was buried, and rose again, please pray this prayer with all of your heart:
Jesus, I am sorry for my sin and come to You for forgiveness and peace. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Make me into the person You want me to be. Amen.
Congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
Remember, friend, Believe by faith. Share the faith. and Keep the faith!
