A decision is expected within 20 days in the case of the Iranian pastor facing the death sentence for refusing to deny his Christian faith.
Pastor Youcef Nardarkhani’s case has gone to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
Khamenei can delay providing an opinion as long as he chooses, but the pastor’s lawyer believes the decision will come in three weeks.
Some media outlets had reported Iran’s supreme court has ordered a retrial, but those reports were found to be false.
Meanwhile, 89 members of Congress from both parties have sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, urging her involve the U.N. and pressure the Islamic republic to free Nardarkhani.
