A release sent out by the Consulate General of Israel in Houston announced its partnership in support of Israel with big-name Texans like Gov. Rick Perry and Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen.
It reads:
While President Obama and Governor Rick Perry have both demonstrated their commitment to supporting the State of Israel, hundreds of synagogues and churches across the southwest have pledged to demonstrate their support under the title One With Israel. This weekend, tens of thousands of people from over two hundred churches, synagogues, community centers, and schools across the southwest will have a day dedicated to express loyalty and support for Israel, the only true democracy in the Middle East.Among the participating leaders and organizations one can find the prestigious Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church, the esteemed Rabbi Rosen of Beth Yeshurun Synagogue, distinguished Pastor Steve Riggle of Grace Community Church, and respected Hispanic religious leader Pastor Becky Keenan of Gulf Meadows Church.These last few months have been difficult times for the State of Israel. As the General Assembly of the United Nations meets in New York City, and the declaration by leaders of the Palestinian Authority approaches, Israel finds itself fighting for legitimacy once again. These actions are designed to isolate Israel within the international community by delegitimizing our nation. During these hardships, local leaders and community members are standing by Israel in synagogues, churches, and community centers to demonstrate they are One With Israel.
